6 Tips for Flying With Babies & Kids

Flying with kids under the age of 5 can be challenging.  Noises and crowded spaces and air pressure changes and good ol’ boredom can all contribute to a not-so-happy flying experience when traveling with your little ones.  Here are 6 tips that will most certainly help improve your family flight experiences.

1.  Snacks!  If there was ever a time to let your kiddo have his fave cookies, this is it.  Sure, bring the healthy stuff, too.  But don’t forget some snacks that are “fun” and at least seem like a treat.

2.  Achy Ear Stuff!  Things that can help with little ones having ear pain during landing are bottles, pacifiers and chewy snacks.  If they’re too little to make their ears “pop” intentionally, anything that promotes sucking or chewing is helpful.

3.  Blanket!  Bring their favorite blanket or stuffed animal to help comfort them and keep them cozy during the entire flight.

4.  Books!  For non-electronic entertainment, books are perfect.  Steer clear of bringing lots of toys, especially if they have small parts.  You don’t want to end up on your hands and knees in an airplane looking for LEGOs.

5.  Technology!  Just like those cookies, if there was ever a time to let your kiddo have extra screen time, it’s on a plane.  And just in case there’s a wifi issue, remember to have a few movies actually downloaded to the tablet so that they can be viewed even without an internet connection.

6.  Alcohol!  For YOU, not the kid.  We’re not suggesting that you overindulge while you’re responsible for young children.  But we are suggesting that you have a drink on the plane if flying with them is stressing you out.  Because, quite frankly, it’s all temporary.  And most likely, you’re going somewhere to have FUN.  So try your best to relax and enjoy yourself.
